Yes…
I said yes!
I have had a lot of people ask me how he asked, what he did, what he said, how I felt and what I said, so I thought I would do a little post on his proposal and our engagement.
So, on the 31st of December 2016 we planned to ring in the New Year in our back yard watching outdoor movies, surrounded by our darling animals in our favourite place on earth; our home! In true Duffymoon style, I roped Darren into spending 2 hours stringing fairy lights and hanging paper lanterns, now that I think about it…the fact that he was so willing to trawl party shops for decorations should have been suspicious enough!
Darren set up a huge screen and proceeded to set up the projector so we could make sure everything was working before we settle in. It turns out that the projector was dead, but fortunately, a close friend of our lent us his projector for the evening. We decided against sitting on the floor picnic-style because our animals love snacks too. So, we hauled our couch into the yard and set up a coffee table choc a bloc with vegan snacks and a big ol’ ice bucket of champagne.
We started off watching “New Year's Eve” and then we moved onto my favourite story of all time, The Great Gatsby! Fortunately, things were perfectly timed and Darren decided to stop the movie before it got sad – right in time for 23:45! He suggested we turn off the movie and play some music so that when the clock strikes 12 we can head inside (for the sake of the animals). He fumbled a bit with the speaker and then after a minute or two, my favourite song of all time started playing and before I knew it, right there under the shimmering fairy lights and dreamy paper lanterns, in the place we love the most, he was down on one knee, asking me if I would be his wife. I mean he said more than that, a lot more, not only with his words but with his eyes and then I said YES and then we kissed and then only did he open the ring box (a bit cheeky don’t ya think?) and showed me my absolute DREAM ring and all of a sudden, just like that…we were engaged.
I am engaged to my best friend, love of my life and pretty much my heart and it feels more magical than I ever imagined. Nothing quite compares to someone choosing you, every single day for the rest of your lives. Although we have only been engaged for a little bit, I have never felt more loved, more appreciated and more “chosen” than I do every single day with Darren, since the day we met. (I love you babes)
I can’t wait to share more of our adventures with you all, I am sure that 2017 will hold a lot of them! I know this one was short and sweet, but some words are super secret magic only to be shared in a moment between two people.
